Typically, the final of the Danish Cup is held on Kristi Himmelfarts Dag (The Ascension) in the Danish national stadium Parken. However, due to renovations in 1991 and 1992, the final was moved to Odense Stadion and Århus Stadion, respectively. In 2011, the final was played two weeks earlier on 22 May to avoid conflict with an international match date. FCK and AaB hold the record for the most final appearances in the cup, with 13 each. FCK has won the cup 9 times, while AaB has won it 3 times. There have been concerns raised over the timing of the cup final, as it often precedes the last rounds of the league. This timing could potentially allow for manipulation of outcomes, as illustrated by former AaB player David Nielsen's claim in his autobiography. Nielsen admitted to intentionally missing scoring chances against FC Copenhagen in the final league match after losing the cup final in 2004, to ensure FCK's victory for the league championship and secure a place for AaB in the UEFA Cup as the cup runner-up.
